Courses : Academic English

This course is about reading – writing – understanding – and speaking English for academic purposes.  Some of the topics covered will be letters and email – CVs – making a presentation at a conference – writing an abstract – following your topic in a journal – and talking with international colleagues, along with publishing articles.

Course members should already have an intermediate level of English (it is not an English class). All lectures, discussions, and materials will be in English, without translation.

The course meets every week for 2-1/2 hours, for 7 weeks. Attendance at every session is required to pass the course. There will be some weekly reading at home, at least one consultation with the instructor, and a final work and quiz.

The course is open to TSU faculty, administrative staff, laboratory members, and postgraduate students. Seats are limited to 20. (If necessary, priority is given to those working in laboratories, centers, and joint Russian–international educational programs or preparing lecture/seminar courses in English.) We encourage master's and PhD students to participate.  Admission is after a short interview with Jean.

Those who meet the course participation standards will be eligible for a certificate of completion.
